Quick update becaues I feel like crap-

I went to see my OB today. Apparently I've developed Cellulitus (a bacterial skin infection) above my incision. I started antibiotics today, but it will take time for them to start working. Meanwhile, I've been battling a fever of 103F all day. I feel like crap.

I may also have Mastitis (an infection of the breast). Luckily, if I do, the same antibiotic I'm on for the Cellulitus should cover it as well.

I feel like I'm falling apart. I can't function. I feel like throwing up. I'm getting bad chills, then too hot, then shaking uncontrollably. If my fever doesn't go down by tomorrow, they told me to call the on-call doctor for evaluation, and that I'd definitely have to come back in Monday. We're hoping the antibiotics kick in soon though, she said it may take 48 hours.

It's going to be a long weekend :(

Just remember you are recovering from major abdominal surgery also. I was miserable for a couple weeks after. I was induced for four and a half days though and pushed for three hours on my hands and knees with an epidural.
An infection must suck! I would keep witch hazel on hand.

Hope you heal quickly!

Oh babydoll, I am so sorry. Birds gave me a GREAT trick for duct problems. Get a disposable diaper and run water as hot as you can stand on it. Slap that sumbitch on your boob. The diaper will retain heat, shape to your boob and keep the water from dripping like a messy towel. Lather, rinse, REPEAT AND REPEAT. Also, in the shower, if you have a handheld shower head( if not please make sadface at your husband till he installs one IT IS WORTH IT) and put it on pulse. Start under your armpit, but parallel with your nipple. Move forward with the spray till you see milk drip out of your nipple. I did this religiously after my first and only experience with a blocked duct for weeks. I never had a recurrence but poor Bird had a majillion. Do not forget to eat some yogurt since you don't want a damn yeast infection on top of everything else.

Thinking of you.

The c-section weakened your immune system. Keep your spirits high. You will be better before long. *hugs

You poor thing. I hope the medicine kicks in soon. And you probably know this already, but I have friends that swear by cold tea bags or cool cabbage leaves in a bra to ease breast soreness - just in case you wanted something to sooth the girls as the medicine kicks that in the ass too!
Wishing you all the best x

Sorry Steph,

I haven't had the infections, but the high fever/chills/fever bit was what I had over break. It's not fun. I hope that the antibiotics kick in. I'll keep you in my prayers.

I hope the antibiotics help quickly. I got mastitis shortly after giving birth and had to deal with lots of pain and chills and shakes too, so I know how much they suck. Those first few weeks were hard for me but they got better when the infection went away. Tend to your wound and if you think you have mastitis too try to keep V nursing to draw out the infection.

I'm so sorry to hear about the infections. Hoping and praying the antibiotics do the trick and have you feeling better.

Hang in there and remember- in those newborn days, all you have to do is get by. Don't expect too much of yourself, rest as much as you can, let your husband bear as much of the burden as you can, and go easy on yourself mentally/emotionally.

This too shall pass.

Well that just sucks! I hope your fever goes down soon and that your antibiotics kick in like NOW!

Hope you are soon feeling better.

Is anyone there helping you? You should not being doing anything right now other than nursing (pumping) and caring for the baby.. no cooking, no cleaning, no errands. Cellulitis can be serious and while rest is hard to come by with a new babe, you need as much as possible to recover. I hope the antibiotics kick its butt.
